The conference “The demographic changes in Poland, Germany and Europa. History, connections and new research perspectives”.
We would like to invite you to take part in an international interdisciplinary conference entitled “The demographic changes in Poland, Germany and Europa. History, connections and new research perspectives”.
The demographic changes are a challenge for both Polish and German society. Low population growth rate, increasing life expectancy, migrations to European urban agglomerations are the phenomena which are often called “the ageing of society” or “the dying of rural regions” and which are frequently discussed in public. The Centre of Interdisciplinary Studies of Poland, the Institute for Western Affairs and the Foundation to Collegium Polonicum in Słubice want to look at the problem from another point of view. The historical panel will show what kind of change in the demographic processes was the policy towards national minorities after the Second World War. The second panel will be dedicated to the phenomena which are common in the demographic development of Poland and Germany. The following issues will be presented: the results of the migration for the society structure in the border region, the social results of earning migration for children’s care system, the health care system and the elderly people’s care system. During the third panel we will observe attentively the view of “ageing” society and we want to discuss the cultural changes in the perception of senility.
The conference will be held in Polish, German and English ( with the simultaneous Polish-German and German-Polish interpreting, English will not be interpreted)
The organisers of the seminar are: the Centre of Interdisciplinary Studies of Poland (ZIP) of European University Viadrina, the Institute for Western Affairs and the Foundation to Collegium Polonicum in Słubice. The project is financed by the funds of the European Fund of Regional Development under the Operational Programme of Border Cooperation Poland (Lubusz Province) – Branderburgia 2007-2013, Small Project Fund and the network project of Euroregion Pro Europa Viadrina: Overcoming borders due to common future investments, and the Foundation for Polish - German Cooperation.
