Overshadowed by the Covid-19 outbreak, the 75th anniversary of the annexation of the Western and Northern Territories by Poland passed nearly unnoticed. In the popular opinion, the region was populated after the War mainly by people resettled from the former Eastern Territories.
While that assertion is true, it should also be noted that the area’s first Polish settlers came from the region of Wielkopolska. What role did Wielkopolska residents play in redeveloping the “Recovered Territories”? How did the historical perspective on the incorporation of these lands into Poland change over time?”
