No 55 - German reactions for Osama bin Laden’s death
Killing (on 2nd May 2011) Osama bin Laden, the leader of Al-Kaida by American special forces evoked heated disputes all over the world. The discussions took place in Germany as well, revealing pacifist and anti-American opinions again. There were some references to home affairs as well.
Opinion about the action as an American success was dominant among German commentators. Nevertheless, there were also voices of criticism that the way of conducting the action (de facto - an execution) may have different effects: it will not end the activity of Islamic fanatics, but will cause the new wave of violence. Some commentators suggested that killing the leader of Al-Kaida was in fact pointless.
